We used to pray Asr, then a person would head out to Banu Amr bin Awf and find them still praying Asr.
كنا نصلي العصر، ثم يخرج الإنسان إلى بني عمرو بن عوف فيجدهم يصلون العصر.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on the times of prayer (10), from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha, from Anas bin Malik, and he mentioned it. And by way of Malik, Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on the prayer times (548), and Muslim in the chapter on mosques (621: 194).The scholars said, the dwellings of Banu Amr bin Awf were two miles from Madinah. Nawawi said, "This shows how much the Messenger of Allah ﷺ hastened to pray early, while Banu Amr bin Awf prayed in the middle of the time period. Were it not for this, there would be no evidence in it. Perhaps the reason Banu Amr bin Awf delayed was that they were people occupied with their farming, their crops, and their orchards. When they finished their work, they prepared for prayer with purification and other preparations, then gathered for it, so their prayer would be delayed to the middle of the time period for this reason." End of quote.Ibn Abdul-Barr said, this shows the variation in the circumstances of the people of Madinah regarding the Asr prayer, in that its time is broad as long as the sun remains white and clear.
