Whenever the Prophet ﷺ stopped at a place to rest, he would not depart from it until he had prayed Dhuhr.A man asked him, "Even if it was midday?"He replied, "Even if it was midday."
كان النبي ﷺ إذا نزل منزلا لم يرتحل منه حتى يصلي الظهر، فقال له رجل: وإن كان بنصف النهار؟ قال: وإن كان بنصف النهار.
Reported by Abu Dawud (1205) and Nasai (498), both from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, from Shuba, who said, "Hamza al-Aidhi narrated to me, saying, 'I heard Anas bin Malik.'" And he related the hadith. Its chain is hasan.Hamza al-Aidhi is Ibn Amr al-Dabbi al-Basri. Nasai deemed him trustworthy, while Abu Hatim said, "A shaykh." Al-Hafiz placed him at the rank of "truthful." He is among the narrators found in Muslim, and further discussion of the sourcing will come in the chapter on the prayer of the traveler.His statement, "when he stopped at a place," refers specifically to shortly before Dhuhr, not in general, because it has been established that when he set out before the sun had passed its zenith, he would delay Dhuhr until Asr.
