He was asked about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "The Prophet ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr at midday when the sun had passed its zenith, Asr while the sun was still bright and clear, Maghrib when the sun had set, and Isha sometimes early and sometimes late. If he saw the people had gathered, he would hasten it, and if he saw them delaying, he would postpone it. As for Fajr, they, or the Prophet ﷺ, used to pray it while it was still dark."
أن سئل عن صلاة رسول الله ﷺ فقال: كان النبي ﷺ يصلي الظهر بالهاجرة، والعصر والشمس نقية، والمغرب إذا وجبت، والعشاء أحيانا وأحيانا: إذا رآهم اجتمعوا عجل، وإذا رآهم أبطؤا أخر، والصبح كانوا أو كان النبي ﷺ يصليها بغلس.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer Times (560, 565), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (646), both through the route of Shubah, from Saad bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad bin Amr bin Hasan bin Ali, who said, "When Hajjaj came to Madinah, we asked Jabir bin Abdullah," and he mentioned the hadith, their wording being identical.In a version reported by Muslim, "Hajjaj used to delay the prayers, so we asked Jabir bin Abdullah," and he mentioned it.
