I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Between a servant and disbelief or faith stands the prayer. If he abandons it, he has committed shirk."
سمت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: بين العبد وبين الكفر والإيمان الصلاة، فإذا تركها فقد أشرك.
Lalikai narrated it in Usul al-Itiqad (1521) via Shuayb bin Ishaq Dimashqi, who said, Abu Mughira (that is, Abdullah bin Hajjaj) told us, Uzai told us, Walid bin Hisham told us, Madan bin Abu Talha told us, who said, I said to Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Tell us a hadith that Allah may benefit us through." He remained silent, so I said, "Tell us a hadith that Allah may benefit us through." He said (and then mentioned it).Lalikai said, its isnad is sahih according to the standard of Muslim. Munziri attributed it to him in Targhib wal-Tarhib (818) and said, "Its isnad is sahih." Ibn Qayyim said in Kitab al-Salah (p. 46), "Its isnad meets the standard of sahih Muslim."
