Tirmidhi (2621), Nasai (464), and Ibn Majah (1079) all narrated it through the route of Husayn bin Waqid, who said, Abdullah bin Burayda narrated to us, from his father, and he mentioned something similar. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih gharib.Its chain is hasan, for Husayn bin Waqid Marwazi, Abu Abdullah the judge, stands at the rank of "saduq." Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy, and Imam Ahmad said, there is no harm in him. Abu Hatim, Nasai the hadith master, and Abu Dawud said the same, while Ibn Saad said, he had good hadith. So he does not rise to the rank of "trustworthy" as stated in al-Taqrib, which then combines "trustworthy" with "he has lapses," a combination that is not commendable.As for Hakim (6/1-7), he graded it sahih and said, "No defect can be found in it by any means whatsoever, for both Bukhari and Muslim relied upon Abdullah bin Burayda from his father, and Muslim relied upon Husayn bin Waqid, though the two of them did not record it with this wording, and this hadith has a sahih corroborating witness that meets both of their conditions." End of quote.I say, this refers to the hadith of Abu Hurairah that will come later, but it is not preserved, as will be explained. Ibn Hibban (1454) also graded it sahih, narrating it through the route of Husayn bin Waqid with the same wording.
