Abu Dharr used to relate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The roof of my house was opened while I was in Mecca, and Jibreel ﷺ descended. He split open my chest, then washed it with water from Zamzam. Then he brought a golden basin filled with wisdom and faith, and poured it into my chest, then closed it up. Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the heaven. When we reached the lowest heaven, Jibreel said to its keeper, 'Open.'The keeper asked, 'Who is this?'He replied, 'This is Jibreel.'The keeper asked, 'Is anyone with you?'He replied, 'Yes, Muhammad ﷺ is with me.'The keeper asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He replied, 'Yes.'So he opened the gate. When we ascended into the lowest heaven, there was a man with figures on his right and figures on his left. When he looked toward his right he laughed, and when he looked toward his left he wept. He said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.'I asked, 'Jibreel, who is this?'He replied, 'This is Adam
, and these figures on his right and left are the souls of his descendants. Those on the right are the people of Paradise, and the figures on his left are the people of the Fire. So when he looks toward his right he laughs, and when he looks toward his left he weeps.'Then Jibreel ascended with me until he reached the second heaven, and said to its keeper, 'Open.' The keeper said the same as the keeper of the lowest heaven had said, and then opened."Anas bin Malik said that the Prophet mentioned that he found Adam, Idris, Isa, Musa, and Ibrahim, the blessings of Allah be upon them all, in the heavens, but he did not confirm exactly which heaven each was in, except that he mentioned finding Adam
in the lowest heaven and Ibrahim in the sixth heaven. He said, "When Jibreel and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Idris, blessings of Allah be upon him, he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.' Then we passed on, and I asked, 'Who is this?'He replied, 'This is Idris.'Then I passed by Musa
, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.'I asked, 'Who is this?'He replied, 'This is Musa.'Then I passed by Isa, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.'I asked, 'Who is this?'He replied, 'This is Isa son of Maryam.'Then I passed by Ibrahim
, and he said, 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.'I asked, 'Who is this?'He replied, 'This is Ibrahim.'"Ibn Shihab said, Ibn Hazm informed me that Ibn Abbas and Abu Habbah al-Ansari used to say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then I was taken up until I reached a level where I could hear the scratching of the pens."Ibn Hazm and Anas bin Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then Allah made fifty prayers obligatory upon my nation. I returned with that until I passed by Musa, and Musa
asked, 'What has your Lord made obligatory upon your nation?'I replied, 'He has made fifty prayers obligatory upon them.'Musa
said to me, 'Go back to your Lord, for your nation cannot bear that.'So I went back to my Lord, and He reduced it by half. I returned to Musa
and informed him.He said, 'Go back to your Lord, for your nation cannot bear that.'So I went back to my Lord, and He said, 'They are five, and they are fifty. The word is not changed with Me.'I returned to Musa, and he said, 'Go back to your Lord.'I said, 'I am too shy before my Lord.'Then Jibreel took me on until we came to the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, which was covered with colors I cannot describe. Then I was admitted into Paradise, where there were domes of pearls, and its earth was musk."
Bukhari narrated it in "The Prayer" (349), and Muslim narrated it in "Faith" (163), both from the hadith of Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, from Anas bin Malik, who said, "Abu Dharr used to narrate." Then he related the hadith similarly. The wording given here is that of Muslim, and the wording of Bukhari is close to it.
