Ayesha reported,
Ayesha said, "We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys. When we reached Bayda, or perhaps Dhat al-Jaysh, a necklace of mine broke and fell. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted to search for it, and the people stopped with him. They were not near any water, nor did they have any with them."The people went to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and said, "Do you not see what Ayesha has done? She has caused the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people to halt where there is no water and they have none with them."Ayesha continued, "Abu Bakr came in while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had laid his head on my thigh and fallen asleep. He said, 'You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people where there is no water and they have none with them?'"Ayesha said, "Abu Bakr rebuked me and said whatever Allah willed him to say, and he began to poke me in my side with his hand. Nothing kept me from moving except that the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ head was on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept until morning came, and there was no water. So Allah 
revealed the verse of tayammum, and they performed tayammum."Usayd bin Hudayr said, "This is not the first blessing you have brought, family of Abu Bakr."Ayesha said, "We then made the camel I had been riding stand up, and we found the necklace beneath it."

خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في بعض أسفاره، حتى إذا كان بالبيداء، أو بذات الجيش انقطع عقد لي، فأقام رسول الله ﷺ على التماسه، وأقام الناس معه، وليسوا على ماء، وليس معهم ماء، فأتى الناس إلى أبي بكر الصديق فقالوا: ألا ترى ما صنعت عائشة؟ أقامت برسول الله ﷺ وبالناس، وليسوا على ماء وليس معهم ماء، قالت عائشة: فجاء أبو بكر ورسول الله ﷺ واضع رأسه على فخذي قد نام فقال: حبست رسول الله ﷺ والناس، وليسوا على ماء وليس معهم ماء؟ قالت عائشة: فعاتبني أبو بكر، فقال ما شاء الله أن يقول، وجعل يطعن بيده في خاصرتي، فلا يمنعني من التحرك إلا مكان رأس رسول الله ﷺ على فخذي، فنام رسول الله ﷺ حتى أصبح على غير ماء فأنزل الله تبارك وتعالى آية التيمم، فتيمموا. فقال أسيد بن حضير: ما هي بأول بركتكم يا آل أبي بكر. قالت: فبعثنا البعير الذي كنت عليه، فوجدنا العقد تحته.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on purification (89) from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from his father, from Ayesha, and this is his wording. Through his route, Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on tayammum (334) and Muslim in the chapter on menstruation (367).In a narration from Bukhari in the chapter on tafsir (4608), via the route of Amr, from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, Ayesha said, my necklace fell off at Bayda while we were entering Madinah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made his camel kneel and dismounted, and rested his head in my lap, sleeping. Abu Bakr came and jabbed me hard, saying, "You have held up the people for a necklace?" I nearly died from the pain, because of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ position, and he had hurt me badly. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up and the time for the dawn prayer had come, so water was searched for but could not be found, and then the verse was revealed, and so on.In a narration from Muslim, through another route, from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, she said that she had borrowed a necklace from Asma, and it was lost. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent some of his companions to search for it. The time for prayer came upon them, so they prayed without ablution. When they came to the Prophet ﷺ, they complained to him about this, and the verse of tayammum was revealed.Then Usayd bin Hudayr said, "May Allah reward you with good. By Allah, no matter has ever befallen you but that Allah made from it a way out for you, and made in it a blessing for the Muslims."Her saying, "Death was upon me," means that she nearly died from the severity of the pain, but she did not move so as not to disturb the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
