I asked Anas bin Malik about wiping over leather socks, and he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wipe over them."
سألت أنس بن مالك عن المسح على الخفين فقال: كان رسول الله ﷺ يمسح عليهما.
Ibn Hibban narrated it (4/147, no. 1318). He said, Muhammad bin Ubaydullah bin al-Junayd told us in Bust. He said, Qutayba bin Saeed told us. He said, Abu Awana told us, from Abu Yafur, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Yafur is Waqdan al-Abdi al-Kufi al-Kabir, and it is said his name was Waqid. He is one of the narrators found in all the major hadith collections.As for what Ibn Majah narrated (548), Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr told us, Umar bin Ubayd Tanafisi told us, Umar bin Muthanna told us, from Ata Khurasani, from Anas, who said, "I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and he said, 'Is there any water?'" So he performed wudu and wiped over his socks, then caught up with the army and led them in prayer. Its chain of transmission is daif.Busiri said in Zawaid, "This chain of transmission is daif and disconnected." Abu Zura said, "Ata Khurasani did not hear from Anas." And Aqeeli said, "Umar bin Muthanna's hadith is not preserved."
