Tirmidhi (74) and Ibn Majah (515) both narrated it through the route of Shubah, from Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. Ibn Khuzayma (27) also graded it sahih through this same route.Bayhaqi holds that this hadith is an abridgment of the hadith of Suhayl bin Abu Salih mentioned earlier in the preceding chapter, and that Shubah, one of Suhayl's students, abridged it. Sunan al-Kubra (1/117).Ibn Turkmani holds that these are two different hadiths. Because of this possibility, I have repeated its mention.
