The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he mentioned the hadith. Then he said, "Paradise was shown to me, so much so that had I wished, I could have plucked a cluster of its fruits. And the Fire was shown to me, and I kept trying to shield myself from it, fearing it might engulf you. I began saying, 'Did You not promise me that You would not punish them while I am among them? My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while they seek Your forgiveness?'I saw in it the black woman of Himyar, the owner of the cat, who had confined it without feeding it or giving it water, nor allowing it to eat from the creatures of the earth. I saw her, every time she turned away, the cat would bite at her in the Fire. And I saw in it the man who stole the two camels of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the brother of Dadaa, being thrust into the Fire with two forked rods. And I saw the owner of the staff, I saw him in the Fire leaning on his crooked staff."
Abu Dawud (1194) narrated it via Hammad, Nasai (1482) narrated it via Abdul-Aziz bin Abdul-Samad, Ahmad (6483, 6763) narrated it via Muhammad bin Fudayl and Shubah, Ibn Khuzayma (1393) and Hakim (1/329) narrated it via Sufyan Thawri, and Ibn Khuzayma (1392) and Ibn Hibban (2838) narrated it via Jareer, all of them from Ata bin Saaib, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, who said, then he mentioned the hadith. The wording is that of Ibn Hibban. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ata bin Saaib is reliable, and the scholars affirmed his reliability, except that his memory became confused later in life. However, the narrations of Hammad, Sufyan, and Shubah were transmitted before his memory became confused.
