The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In the Fire there are snakes like the necks of Bactrian camels. If one of them strikes a person, he will feel its burning sting for forty autumns. And in the Fire there are scorpions like saddled mules. If one of them strikes a person, he will feel its burning sting for forty years."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن في النار حيات كأمثال أعناق البخت، تلسع إحداهن اللسعة، فيجد حموتها أربعين خريفا، وإن في النار عقارب كأمثال البغال الموكفة، تلسع إحداهن اللسعة، فيجد حموتها أربعين سنة.
Imam Ahmad (17712) narrated it from Musa bin Dawud and Hasan bin Musa, who both said, Ibn Lahia narrated to us, from Darraj, who said, I heard Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz Zubaydi say, and then he mentioned it. Ibn Lahia has been criticized, but he has been corroborated. Ibn Hibban (7471), Hakim (4/593), and Bayhaqi in Bath wal-Nushur (561) all narrated it through routes from Abdullah bin Wahb, who said, Amr bin Harith informed me that Darraj told him that he heard Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz Zubaydi say, and then he mentioned it. Ibn Hibban and Hakim confined themselves to only the first part of the hadith.Darraj is Ibn Saman, Abu Samh the Egyptian, whose hadith is hasan when Abu Haytham is not the one narrating from him, and this is one of those cases. With these two chains together, the hadith rises to the level of hasan.His saying, "its venom," means its poison.
