The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The fire that the children of Adam kindle is one part out of seventy parts of the fire of Hell."They said, "Messenger of Allah, even this fire alone would be enough."He replied, "Hell's fire surpasses it by sixty-nine parts."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: نار بني آدم التي يوقدون جزء من سبعين جزءا من نار جهنم. فقالوا: يا رسول الله إن كانت لكافية قال: إنها فضلت عليها بتسعة وستين جزءا.
Malik narrated it in Kitab Jahannam (1) from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the Beginning of Creation (3265) through the route of Malik, with the same wording. Muslim narrated it in Paradise (2843) through another route from Abu Zinad, with the same wording. Bukhari and Muslim added, "All of them are like its heat."Ahmad (7327), Ibn Hibban (7463), and Bayhaqi in Bath wal-Nushur (500) all narrated it through the route of Sufyan, who said, "Abu Zinad narrated to us," with the same wording, and they added in it that it, "was struck with seawater twice, and were it not for that, Allah would not have made it of any benefit to anyone." Its isnad is sahih.Ahmad also narrated it through the route of Amr bin Dinar, from Yahya bin Jadah, as a mursal narration, and the ruling belongs to whoever connected the chain.Of similar meaning is what was narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "This fire of yours is one part out of seventy parts of the fire of Hell, each part of it having its own heat." Tirmidhi (2590) and Abu Yaala (1334) both narrated it through the route of Ubaydullah bin Musa, who said, "Shayban narrated to us, from Firas, from Atiya, from Abu Saeed Khudri," and he mentioned it.In the isnad is Atiya, who is Ibn Saad Awfi, and he is daif when he narrates alone, and I did not find a corroborator for him. As for Tirmidhi, he said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from the hadith of Abu Saeed."
