A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Should I perform ablution after eating mutton?"He replied, "If you wish, perform ablution, and if you wish, do not."The man asked, "Should I perform ablution after eating camel meat?"He replied, "Yes, perform ablution after eating camel meat."The man asked, "May I pray in the resting places of sheep?"He replied, "Yes."The man asked, "May I pray in the resting places of camels?"He replied, "No."
Muslim reported it in the Book of Menstruation (360), from Abu Kamil Jahdari, from Abu Awana, from Uthman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab, from Jafar bin Abu Thawr, from Jabir bin Samura, who narrated the hadith.Ibn Khuzayma said in his Sahih (31), after reporting this hadith through the route of Abu Awana, "We have not seen any disagreement among the scholars of hadith that this report is sahih in terms of transmission. This report was also narrated from Jafar bin Abu Thawr by Ashath bin Abu Shatha Muharibi and Simak bin Harb. So these three, who are among the most eminent narrators of hadith, have narrated this report from Jafar bin Abu Thawr." End of quote.I say, these corroborating narrations were also mentioned by Muslim, indeed he added even more to them, despite the fact that Uthman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab is trustworthy, having been deemed trustworthy by Ibn Main, Abu Dawud, Nasai, and others. So his hadith here would be sahih even if it stood alone, so how much more so when it has been corroborated?
