The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you has intercourse with his wife and then wishes to return to her, let him perform ablution between the two times."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا أتى أحدكم أهله، ثم بدا له أن يعاود فليتوضأ بينهما وضوءا.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Menstruation (308) through several routes from Asim Ahwal, from Abu Mutawakkil, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, and then he mentioned it.Ahmad narrated it (11161) from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah informed us, from Asim, with the same wording.Ibn Khuzayma (221), Ibn Hibban (1211), and Hakim (1/152) narrated it from Muslim bin Ibrahim, from Shubah, and he added in it, "for it is more conducive to resuming intercourse." This addition is acceptable, as Hakim said.
