We performed the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While he was in prayer, he stretched out his hand, then drew it back. When he finished the prayer, we said, "Messenger of Allah, you did something in this prayer that you have not done in any prayer before it."He said, "Paradise was displayed before me, and I saw within it a vine with low-hanging clusters, its fruit like gourds. I wanted to take some of it, but it was revealed to it to draw back, so it drew back. Then the Fire was displayed before me between me and you, until I saw my shadow and your shadows. I gestured to you to step back, but it was revealed to me to leave them be, for you have accepted Islam and they have accepted Islam, you have migrated and they have migrated, you have struggled and they have struggled, so I see no merit of mine over you except prophethood."

This was narrated by Ibn Khuzayma (892), Tahawi in Sharh Mushkil (5762), and Hakim (456/4), all of them through the route of Ibn Wahb, "Muawiya bin Salih informed me, Isa bin Asim related to me, from Zirr bin Hubaysh, from Anas bin Malik," who said, then he mentioned the hadith. Its isnad is hasan because of Muawiya bin Salih, for his hadith is hasan. Hakim said, "This hadith is sahih in its isnad, though the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not narrate it."As for what is narrated from Abu Musa Ashari, raised to the Prophet, "When Adam was expelled from Paradise, he was provided with fruits from Paradise, and he was taught the craft of everything. So these fruits of yours are from the fruits of Paradise, except that these change while those do not change." The correct view is that it is a stopped report.Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad (3029) from Uqba bin Mukram Ammi, who said, "Rubai bin Ulaya informed us," who said, "Awf informed us, from Qusama bin Zuhayr, from Abu Musa," raising it to the Prophet. Bazzar said, "This hadith has been narrated by more than one person from Awf, from Qusama, from Abu Musa, as a stopped report. We do not know of anyone who raised it to the Prophet except Rubai." Then he narrated it from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, "Ibn Abu Adi informed us, from Awf, from Qusama, from Abu Musa," in similar fashion, without raising it to the Prophet.I say, it is as he said, for more than one person narrated it from Awf, who is Ibn Abu Jameela, and they reported it as a stopped report. Among them was Hawza bin Khalifa, whose narration was recorded by Hakim (543/2), and Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi and Muhammad bin Jafar Ghundar, whose narration was recorded by Ibn Jareer in his Tafsir (418/1), and Muamar bin Rashid, whose narration was recorded by Abdul-Razzaq in his Tafsir (1/267). All of these narrated it from Awf as a report stopped at Abu Musa Ashari, and this is the more correct view.As for the words of Allah Almighty, "Every time they are provided with a fruit therefrom as provision, they say, 'This is what we were provided with before,' and it is given to them in resemblance" [Baqarah 2:25], their meaning is that the fruits are similar in color and appearance, but different in taste and flavor. If the fruits of this world had descended from Paradise with Adam, their taste and flavor would not differ. This is because the words of Allah Almighty, "This is what we were provided with before" [Baqarah 2:25], mean before in this world, as Ibn Masud, Ibn Abbas, and a group of the companions and successors said, and this is the view favored by Ibn Jareer in his Tafsir.
