Tabarani related it in Al-Kabir (13/609, no. 14527) from Abdullah bin Ahmad, who said, our father narrated to us, Muaz bin Hisham narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from Qatada, from Abu Ayub, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Ayub is al-Maraghi al-Azdi, whose name was Yahya, though it is also said to be Habib bin Malik. He is trustworthy, and Ibn Saad, Nasai, and others confirmed his trustworthiness.Ibn Mubarak related it in Al-Zuhd (231) from Hammam bin Yahya al-Awdhi, from Qatada, from Abu Ayub, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, as a statement attributed to him rather than to the Prophet, saying, "Henna is the chief fragrant plant of Paradise, and in it are noble horses and choice riding camels that its people ride."Ibn Abu Shayba related it (35123) from Yazid bin Harun, from Hammam, with the same chain, likewise attributed only to him.This does not undermine the soundness of the hadith, for Hisham bin Abu Abdullah al-Dastawai is trustworthy and firmly reliable, and an addition from a trustworthy narrator is accepted by the majority of scholars, especially since this is not the kind of thing that could be said based on personal opinion or independent reasoning.
