The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will precede you to the Pond. Some men from among you will be raised up to me, but just as I reach out to hand them something, they will be snatched away from me. I will say, 'My Lord, my companions!' He will say, 'You do not know what they introduced after you.'"
قال النبي ﷺ: أنا فرطكم على الحوض، ليرفعن إلي رجال منكم، حتى إذا أهويت لأناولهم اختلجوا دوني، فأقول: أي رب أصحابي، يقول: لا تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك.
Bukhari narrated it in The Book of Trials (7049), and Muslim narrated it in The Book of Virtues (2297), both of them through Mughira, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah bin Masud, who mentioned it.
