The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah will gather the first and the last for the appointed time of a known day, for forty years, their eyes fixed upward toward the sky, awaiting the final judgment. And Allah will descend in canopies of clouds from the Throne to the Footstool." The hadith continues.
Ibn Manda narrated it in Tawhid (531) through several routes from Ismail bin Ubayd bin Abu Karima, who said, Muhammad bin Salama told us, from Abu Abdul-Rahim Khalid bin Abu Yazid, from Zayd bin Abu Unaysa, from Minhal bin Amr, from Abu Ubayda, from Masruq bin Ajda, from Abdullah bin Masud, and he related the hadith in full. Its chain is hasan, and Dhahabi also graded it hasan in Uluw (200). See the detailed sourcing in Ruyat al-Muminin Rabbahum Yawm al-Qiyamah.
