The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon will be wrapped up on the Day of Resurrection."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: الشمس والقمر مكوران يوم القيامة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Beginning of Creation (3200) from Musaddad, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Mukhtar told us, Abdullah Danaj told us, who said, Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman told me, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.It has come in a source other than the Sahih with an addition, "Two bulls, cast down, in the Fire." Musaddad narrated it in his Musnad, as found in Ithaf Khayra Mahra (1357), from Abdul-Aziz bin Mukhtar with the same wording. This may perhaps be another narration from Musaddad. Likewise, Tahawi narrated it in Sharh Mushkil Athar (183) through another route from Abdul-Aziz bin Mukhtar with his chain of transmission.Its meaning, as Khattabi said, is, "It is not meant that their being in the Fire constitutes punishment for them, but rather it is a rebuke to those who used to worship them in this world, so that they may know that their worship of them was false."
