The Prophet ﷺ addressed the people and said, "You will be gathered before Allah barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised. 'As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it. A promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We shall do it' [Anbiya 21:104]. The first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim."Know that men from my community will be brought forward, and they will be seized and taken off to the left. I will say, 'My Lord, these are my companions.'"It will be said, 'You do not know what they did after you were gone.'"So I will say what the righteous servant said, 'And I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them' up to His words 'witness' [Maidah 5:117]."Then it will be said, 'These men never ceased turning back on their heels from the moment you parted from them.'"
قال خطب النبي ﷺ فقال: إنكم محشورون إلى الله حفاة عراة غرلا، {كما بدأنا أول خلق نعيده وعدا علينا إنا كنا فعلين}، ثم إن أول من يكسى يوم القيامة إبراهيم، ألا إنه يجاء برجال من أمتي، فيؤخذ بهم ذات الشمال، فأقول: يا رب أصحابي فيقال: لا تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك، فأقول كما قال العبد الصالح: {وكنت عليهم شهيدا ما دمت فيهم} إلى قوله {شهيد} [المائدة: ١١٧] فيقال: إن هؤلاء لم يزالوا مرتدين على أعقابهم منذ فارقتهم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Tafsir (4740), and Muslim in Paradise, its Description, and its People (58:2860), both by way of Shuba, from Mughira bin Numan, a shaykh from Nakha, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said, then he mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's.Bayhaqi narrated it in al-Asma wa al-Sifat (839) with a different chain, from Abu Qilaba Raqashi, who said, Abu Walid and Habban narrated to us, saying, "Shuba narrated to us with this chain," and added, "Then I will be brought and clothed in a garment from Paradise that mankind cannot bear the sight of." This is a hasan addition, for Abu Qilaba Raqashi, who is Abdul-Malik bin Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Darir al-Hafiz, is disputed. Abu Jafar Tabari said, "I have not seen anyone with a stronger memory than him." Ibn Hibban said, "He memorized most of his hadith."This addition is supported by what is narrated from Ibn Masud, as a raised report within a long hadith, in which it says, "Clothe my close friend," so two white garments will be brought and he will put them on, then he will sit facing the Throne, then my own clothing will be brought to me, and I will put it on, and I will stand at his right in a standing place that no one else will stand in." Ahmad narrated it (3787), and Hakim graded it sahih (2/364-365), both from the hadith of Uthman, from Ibrahim, from Alqama and Aswad, from Ibn Masud, who said, then he mentioned it. Uthman here is Ibn Umayr al-Bajali, Abu Yaqzan al-Kufi, judged daif by the majority of scholars.However, it is strengthened by the hadith of Ali bin Abu Talib, as a stopped report, namely his statement, "The first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection is Ibrahim, peace and blessings be upon him, then the Prophet ﷺ, and he will be at the right of the Throne." Abu Yaala narrated it (556), and Ahmad in al-Zuhd (415), and Ishaq bin Rahawayh in Matalib Aliyah (4579), all by way of Sufyan, from Amr bin Qays, from Minhal bin Amr, from Abdullah bin Harith, from Ali, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih as a stopped report attributed to Ali bin Abu Talib, and a report of this kind cannot be a matter of personal opinion, since it concerns unseen matters, so it carries the ruling of a raised report.What remains beyond dispute among the Muslims is that our Prophet ﷺ is the second to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection, after Ibrahim ﷺ.
