The Prophet ﷺ said, "The first of the signs of the Hour will be a fire that drives people from the east to the west."
قال النبي ﷺ: أول أشراط الساعة نار تحشر الناس من المشرق إلى المغرب.
Bukhari reported it in the Chapter on the Virtues of the Ansar (3938), from Hamid bin Umar, from Bishr bin Mufaddal, who said, Humayd narrated to us, Anas narrated to us, and he mentioned it in a lengthy hadith. As for his statement, "People will be gathered from the east to the west," the meaning is a general statement about the gathering, that people will come out from every place, from Yemen, from the east, from the west, and from near Madinah, as is found in various narrations, "People will be gathered to the place of gathering." This gathering takes place at the very end of this world, just before the Resurrection and just before the blowing of the Trumpet. Then "On the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens as well, and they will come forth before Allah, the One, the Subjugator" [Ibrahim 14:48]. His statement, "and they will come forth", means they will emerge from their graves, and that will be on the Day of Resurrection.
