I was with Abdullah bin Amr bin As when his steward came to him from Syria, with one night of Ramadan remaining.Abdullah asked him, "Did you leave with my family enough to suffice them?"The steward replied, "I left them provisions."Abdullah said, "I insist that you go back and leave them what is sufficient for them, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'It is sin enough that a man should neglect those whom he is bound to feed.'"Then he began to narrate to us, saying, "When the sun sets, it offers a greeting, prostrates, and seeks permission, and permission is granted to it. But there will come a day when it sets, offers its greeting, prostrates, and seeks permission, yet permission will not be granted. It will say, 'My Lord, the journey is long and permission is not granted to me. I will not reach my destination.' So it will be held back as long as Allah wills. Then it will be told, 'Rise from where you set.' From that day until the Day of Resurrection, 'no soul will benefit from its faith, not having believed before' [Anam 6:158]."He also mentioned Yajuj and Majuj and said, "Not a single one of them dies until a thousand are born from his loins. Beyond them are three nations whose number none knows except Allah, Mansak, Tawil, and Tawis."
Abdul-Razzaq related it in Musannaf (20810) from Mamar, from Abu Ishaq, from Wahb bin Jabir Khaywani, in this manner, and he related it.Hakim narrated it by this same route (4/500-501) and said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs."I say, the correct view is that it is only hasan, because of Wahb bin Jabir, concerning whom there is disagreement. Ibn Main and Ajli deemed him reliable, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, while Ibn Madini considered him unknown. As for Hakim's claim that it meets the criteria of the two Shaykhs, this is not as he alleged, for the two Shaykhs did not narrate from Wahb bin Jabir at all. Only Abu Dawud and Nasai narrated from him.
