Ubayy heard his son saying, "Allah, I ask You for the white palace on the right side of Paradise when I enter it."He said, "My son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There will arise among this nation people who transgress in purification and in supplication.'"
أنه سمع ابنه يقول: اللهم أني أسألك القصر الأبيض عن يمين الجنة إذا دخلتها، فقال: أي بني! سل الله الجنة، وتعوذ به من النار؛ فاني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إنه سيكون في هذه الأمة قوم يعتدون في الطهور والدعاء.
Abu Dawud (96) and Ibn Majah (3864) both narrated it through the route of Hammad bin Salama, who said, Saeed Jariri narrated to us, from Abu Nuama, from Abdullah bin Mughafal, and he mentioned the hadith, except that Ibn Majah did not mention "purification," and for that reason I repeat mention of the hadith in the section on supplication. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ibn Hajar graded it sahih in Talkhis Habir (1/144), and Ibn Hibban (6764) and Hakim (1/162, 540) also graded it sahih, except that Dhahabi said in Talkhis, "It contains an irsal defect."I say, perhaps he confused Abu Nuama, whose name is Qays bin Abaya, with the other Abu Nuama, whose name is Amr bin Isa bin Suwayd, who was among the followers of the followers, and from whom Muslim and others narrated. As for Qays bin Abaya, he was one of the followers, who died sometime between the years one hundred ten and one hundred twenty. He narrated from Abdullah bin Mughafal and his son, and Saeed Jareeri narrated from him. Ibn Abdul-Barr said, "He is reliable according to all of them," and Ibn Main also affirmed his reliability.
