I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Among the worst of people are those whom the Hour overtakes while they are still alive, and those who take graves as places of worship."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن من شرار الناس من تدركه الساعة، وهم أحياء، ومن يتخذ القبور مساجد.
Ahmad narrated it (3844), and Ibn Khuzayma (789) and Ibn Hibban (6847) both graded it sahih, all of them through routes from Zaida (who is Ibn Qudama), from Asim bin Abu Najud, from Shaqiq, from Abdullah, who mentioned it.Bukhari cited it as a suspended narration with a definitive attribution in the Book of Tribulations (7067), from Abu Awana, from Asim, with the same wording but without his statement, "and whoever takes graves as places of worship."Its chain is hasan because of Asim bin Abu Najud, for his hadith is hasan.
