The Prophet ﷺ said, "Armies will not cease attempting to invade this House until one of their armies is swallowed up by the earth."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لا تنتهي البعوث عن غزو هذا البيت حتى يخسف بجيش منهم.
Narrated by Nasai (2878), and Hakim (4/430) graded it sahih, both from the hadith of Muhammad bin Idris Abu Hatim Razi, who said, Amr bin Hafs bin Ghiyath narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Masaar, who said, Talha bin Musarrif informed me, from Abu Muslim Aghar, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Hakim said, "This is a gharib sahih hadith, and the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it. I do not know of anyone who narrated it besides Amr bin Hafs bin Ghiyath, from whom the imam Abu Hatim transmitted it," end quote.I say, it is not as Hakim said. Rather, Nasai (2877) and Fasawi in Maarifah wa Tarikh (1/417) both narrated it through Zuhri, who said, Suhaym, the freedman of Banu Zahra, informed me that he heard Abu Hurairah say, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "An army will march against this House, and the earth will swallow them in the desert plain." Its narrators are trustworthy except for Suhaym, the freedman of Banu Zahra, from whom no one narrated except Zuhri. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy successors, and Ibn Shahin mentioned in his book on trustworthy narrators that Ibn Ammar deemed him trustworthy. On the same subject, from Safiyyah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People will not stop raiding this House until an army marches against it, and when they are in the desert plain, or in some desert plain of the earth, the first of them and the last of them will be swallowed up, and none of the middle of them will escape." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what of those among them who dislike it?" He said, "Allah will raise them up according to what is in their hearts."This was narrated by Tirmidhi (2183), Ibn Majah (4064), and Ahmad (26858), all of them through routes from Sufyan (that is, Thawri), from Salama bin Kuhayl, from Abu Idris Marhabi, from Muslim bin Safwan, from Safiyyah, and he mentioned it. Abu Isa said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith."I say, in its chain is Muslim bin Safwan, from whom only Abu Idris Marhabi narrated, and I have not found anyone who deemed him trustworthy. For this reason Ibn Hajar said in Taqrib, "unknown." There has also been disagreement about its chain. Mizzi laid it out in the biography of Muslim in his Tahdhib, and Ibn Hajar said, "It is flawed."
