A man came to Umar and said, "So-and-so sends you greetings of peace."Umar replied, "I have heard that he has introduced an innovation. If he has indeed introduced an innovation, then do not convey my greetings of peace to him, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There will occur in my nation,' or 'in this nation, transformations into beasts, the earth swallowing people, and stones raining down from the sky, and that will befall the people who deny divine decree.'"
أن رجلا أتى عمر، فقال: إن فلانا يقرؤك السلام، قال: إنه بلغني أنه قد أحدث، فإن كان قد أحدث فلا تقرئه مني السلام، فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: يكون في أمتي- أو في هذه الأمة- مسخ وخسف وقذف، وذلك في أهل القدر.
Tirmidhi (2152) and Ibn Majah (4061) both narrated it through Abu Asim, who said, Haywa bin Shurayh told us, Abu Sakhra told us, from Nafi, and he mentioned it. Abu Dawud (4613) narrated it through another route from Abu Sakhra, similarly. Its chain is hasan because of Abu Sakhra, and the discussion of him is elaborated in the section on al-qadar.As for his statement, "and that concerns the people of al-qadar," it does not appear in the other hadiths of this chapter, and it may be from the words of Ibn Umar, who said it as a rebuke to them, for they and those like them, who deviate from the straight path, become a cause for the descent of calamities.
