The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Hour will not come until knowledge is taken away, earthquakes become frequent, time draws near, tribulations appear, and harj becomes widespread." Harj means killing, killing. "And until wealth becomes so abundant among you that it overflows."
قال النبي ﷺ: لا تقوم الساعة حتى يقبض العلم، وتكثر الزلازل، ويتقارب الزمان، وتظهر الفتن، ويكثر الهرج هو القتل القتل، حتى يكثر فيكم المال، فيفيض.
Bukhari narrated it in al-Kusuf (1036) from Abu Yaman, who said, Shuayb told us, who said, Abu Zinad told us, from Abdul-Rahman Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Muslim narrated it in al-Ilm (11:157) through Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, from Abu Hurairah, similarly, except that it does not contain the words "and earthquakes will increase."It has been narrated from Muhammad Salama Sakuni, who said, "While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, were you brought food from the sky?' He said, 'Yes, I was brought food.' He said, 'O Prophet of Allah, was any of it left over?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'What was done with it?' He said, 'It was raised up to the sky. It has been revealed to me that I will remain among you only a short while, then you will remain until you say, When, when? Then you will come to me in scattered groups, one destroying another. Before the Hour there will be a severe death, and after it years of earthquakes.'"Darimi narrated it (56) from Muhammad bin Mubarak, who said, Muawiya bin Yahya (that is, Sadafi) told us, who said, Artah bin Munzir told us, from Damra bin Habib (that is, ibn Suhayb Zubaydi), who said, "I heard Salama bin Nufayl Sakuni," and he related it.Its chain is daif because of Muawiya bin Yahya, for he is daif, but he was corroborated. He was corroborated by Abu Mughira Abdullah bin Hajjaj Khawlani, who is trustworthy, in Ahmad's version (16964). He was also corroborated by Mubashir bin Ismail, who is truthful, in Abu Yaala's version (6861). Hakim graded it sahih (4/447-448), and both of them narrated it from Artah bin Munzir with this chain.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two sheikhs, though they did not include it."I say, its chain appears sound, but there is something unusual in the text of the hadith.Bazzar said, "We do not know this hadith to be narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with this wording except through this route. Artah bin Munzir and Damra bin Habib are two well known men from the people of Syria."Dhahabi commented on Hakim's grading it sahih, saying, "The two of them did not include anything from Artah, even though he is reliable, and the report is among the strange reports found among the sahih narrations."
