Usayr bin Jabir reported,

A red wind stirred up in Kufa, and a man came whose only refrain was, "Abdullah bin Masud, the Hour has come!"Abdullah bin Masud, who had been reclining, sat up and said, "The Hour will not arrive until inheritance is no longer divided and no one rejoices over war booty."Then he gestured with his hand like this, pointing it toward Sham, and said, "An enemy will gather against the people of Islam, and the people of Islam will gather against them."I asked, "Do you mean the Romans?"He replied, "Yes. At that battle there will be a fierce retreat. The Muslims will appoint a death squad that will not return except victorious. They will fight until night separates them, and both sides will withdraw, neither side victorious, and the squad will be wiped out.Then the Muslims will appoint another death squad that will not return except victorious. They will be slaughtered in numbers"—he said either, "the like of which has never been seen," or, "the like of which will not be seen"—"to the point that a bird passing by their flanks will not get past them before it falls dead. The sons of one father, who had numbered a hundred, will count themselves and find none of them remaining except a single man. So over what war booty would anyone rejoice? What inheritance would be divided?While they are in this state, they will hear of a calamity greater than that. A crier will come to them, telling them that the Dajjal has overtaken their families behind them. So they will throw aside what is in their hands and advance, sending ten horsemen ahead as a scouting party."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I know their names, the names of their fathers, and the colors of their horses. They are the best horsemen on earth on that day," or, "among the best horsemen on the face of the earth on that day."

عن يسير بن جابر قال

هاجت ريح حمراء بالكوفة، فجاء رجل ليس له هجيرى إلا: يا عبد الله بن مسعود جاءت الساعة، قال: فقعد وكان متكئا، فقال: إن الساعة لا تقوم حتى لا يقسم ميراث، ولا يفرح بغنيمة، ثم قال بيده هكذا، ونحاها نحو الشام، فقال: عدو يجمعون لأهل الإسلام، ويجمع لهم أهل الإسلام، قلت: الروم تعني؟ قال: نعم، وتكون عند ذاكم القتال ردة شديدة، فيشترط المسلمون شرطة للموت لا ترجع إلا غالبة، فيقتتلون حتى يحجز بينهم الليل، فيفيء هؤلاء وهؤلاء، كل غير غالب، وتفنى الشرطة، ثم يشترط المسلمون شرطة للموت، لا ترجع إلا غالبة، فيقتتلون حتى يحجز بينهم الليل، فيفيء هؤلاء وهؤلاء كل غير غالب، وتفنى الشرطة، ثم يشترط المسلمون شرطة للموت لا ترجع إلا غالبة، فيقتتلون حتى يمسوا، فيفيء هؤلاء وهؤلاء، كل غير غالب، وتفنى الشرطة، فإذا كان يوم الرابع نهد إليهم بقية أهل الإسلام، فيجعل الله الدبرة عليهم، فيقتلون مقتلة- إما قال: لا يرى مثلها وإما قال: لم ير مثله- حتى إن الطائر ليمر بجنباتهم، فما يخلفهم حتى يخر ميتا، فيتعاد بنو الأب، كانوا مائة، فلا يجدونه بقي منهم إلا الرجل الواحد، فبأي غنيمة يفرح؟ أو أي ميراث يقاسم؟ فبينما هم كذلك إذ سمعوا ببأس هو أكبر من ذلك، فجاءهم الصريخ إن الدجال قد خلفهم في ذراريهم، فيرفضون ما في أيديهم، ويقبلون، فيبعثون عشرة فوارس طليعة، قال رسول الله ﷺ: إني لأعرف أسماءهم، وأسماء آبائهم، وألوان خيولهم، هم خير فوارس على الأرض يومئذ، أو من خير فوارس على ظهر الأرض يومئذ.
