The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us two accounts. I have witnessed one of them, and I am awaiting the other.He told us that trustworthiness was placed deep in the hearts of men, then the Quran was revealed, so they learned from the Quran and they learned from the Sunnah.Then he told us about the removal of trustworthiness. He said, "A man will sleep, and trustworthiness will be taken from his heart, leaving behind only a faint trace like a small spot. Then he will sleep again, and what remains of it will be taken, leaving its trace like a blister, as when you roll an ember onto your foot and it swells up. You see it bulging, but there is nothing inside it."Then he picked up a pebble and rolled it along his foot."People will then conduct their transactions, but hardly anyone will fulfill a trust, to the point that it will be said, 'Among the tribe of so-and-so there is a trustworthy man.' And it will be said of a man, 'How tough he is! How clever! How sensible!' yet there is not even a mustard seed's weight of faith in his heart.There came a time when I did not care which of you I dealt with, for if he was a Muslim, his religion would compel him to deal honestly with me, and if he was a Christian or a Jew, his governor would compel him to do so. But today, I would not deal with any of you except so-and-so and so-and-so."
حدثنا رسول الله ﷺ حديثين قد رأيت أحدهما وأنا أنتظر الآخر حدثنا: أن الأمانة نزلت في جذر قلوب الرجال، ثم نزل القرآن، فعلموا من القرآن، وعلموا من السنة، ثم حدثنا عن رفع الأمانة، قال: ينام الرجل النومة، فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه، فيظل أثرها مثل الوكت، ثم ينام النومة فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه، فيظل أثرها مثل المحل كجمر دحرجته على رجلك، فنفط، فتراه منتبرا، وليس فيه شيء ثم أخذ حصى فدحرجه على رجله، فيصبح الناس يتبايعون، لا يكاد أحد يؤدي الأمانة حتى يقال: إن في بني فلان رجلا أمينا، حتى يقال للرجل: ما أجلده! ما أظرفه! ما أعقله! وما في قلبه مثقال حبة من خردل من إيمان، ولقد أتي علي زمان، وما أبالي أيكم بايعت، لئن كان مسلما ليردنه علي دينه، ولئن كان نصرانيا أو يهوديا ليردنه علي ساعيه، وأما اليوم فما كنت لأبايع منكم إلا فلانا وفلانا.
