The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My nation will never unite upon misguidance, so hold fast to the community, for the hand of Allah is over the community."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لن تجتمع أمتي على الضلالة أبدا، فعليكم بالجماعة فإن يد الله على الجماعة.
Tabarani related it in al-Kabir (12/447) from Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, who said, "Muhammad bin Abu Bakr Muqaddami narrated to me, Mutamir bin Sulayman narrated to us, from Marzuq the freedman of the family of Talha, from Amr bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar," and then he related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Marzuq the freedman of the family of Talha, for he is one whose hadith is hasan.This hadith has been related from Mutamir bin Sulayman through several different routes. Among them is what Tirmidhi (2167), Ibn Abu Asim in al-Sunnah (80), and Hakim (1/115) all related through the route of Mutamir bin Sulayman, who said, "Sulayman Madani narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar," and then he related it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith from this route. Sulayman Madani, in my view, is Sulayman bin Sufyan, from whom Abu Dawud Tayalisi, Abu Amir Aqadi, and more than one scholar have related."I say, Sulayman bin Sufyan was declared daif by Ibn Madini, Ibn Main, Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, Nasai, and others.Hakim (1/114-115) listed seven different routes showing the variation in the chain going back to Mutamir bin Sulayman, and then said, "The disagreement in the chain of this hadith has thus settled upon Mutamir bin Sulayman, who is one of the pillars of the hadith, across seven routes. It is not possible for us to judge that all of them should be attributed to error in favor of the correctness of the statement of the one who said, 'from Mutamir, from Sulayman bin Sufyan Madani, from Abdullah bin Dinar.' For if we were to adopt this view, we would be attributing the narrator to being unknown, and thereby weaken the hadith through it. Rather, we say that Mutamir bin Sulayman is one of the leading authorities of hadith, and this hadith has been related from him through chains resembling which a hadith can be judged sahih. So it must be that he has a basis in one of these chains.Then we found supporting testimonies for this hadith apart from the hadith of Mutamir. I do not claim they are sahih, nor do I judge them to be weak, but I am obliged to mention them because of the consensus of the people of the sunnah on this principle, one of the principles of Islam. Among those companions who related this hadith is Abdullah bin Abbas." End of quote.I say, the hadith of Ibn Abbas is hasan, and it is the hadith that follows.
