The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The nations are about to summon one another against you from every horizon, just as diners summon one another to their bowl of food."We asked, "Messenger of Allah, will that be because of our small numbers on that day?"He replied, "On that day you will be many, but you will be like the froth carried by a flood. Allah will remove the awe of you from the hearts of your enemies and will cast weakness into your hearts."We asked, "And what is this weakness?"He answered, "Love of life and hatred of death."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: يوشك أن تداعى عليكم الأمم من كل أفق كما تداعى الأكلة على قضعتها، قال: قلنا: يا رسول الله أمن قلة بنا يومئذ؟ قال: أنتم يومئذ كثير، ولكن تكونون غناء كفناء السيل تنزع المهابة من قلوب عدوكم، ويجعل في قلوبكم الوهن، قال: قلنا: وما الوهن؟ قال: حب الحياة، وكراهية الموت.
Ahmad (22397) narrated it from Abu Nadr, who said, Mubarak bin Fadala narrated to us, Marzuq Abu Abdullah Himsi narrated to us, Abu Asma Rahbi narrated to us, from Thawban, the freedman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan, for Mubarak, who is Ibn Fadala, is hasan al-hadith when he explicitly states that he is narrating directly, and Marzuq Abu Abdullah Himsi is also hasan al-hadith.Abu Dawud (4297) and Ibn Abu Asim in Zuhd (268) both narrated it through another route from Abu Abdul-Salam, from Thawban, then he mentioned it. Abu Abdul-Salam is said to be Salih bin Rustum Hashimi, their freedman, and it is also said that he is someone else whose name is not known. He is majhul, but his narration has corroboration.
