The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Jews split into seventy-one sects, one in Paradise and seventy in the Fire. The Christians split into seventy-two sects, seventy-one in the Fire and one in Paradise. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, my nation will split into seventy-three sects, one in Paradise and seventy-two in the Fire."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, who are they?"He replied, "The main body."
Ibn Majah (3992), Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (63), and Lalikai in Sharh Usul al-Itiqad (149) all narrated it through various routes from Abbad bin Yusuf Kindi Himsi, who said, Safwan bin Amr narrated to us, from Rashid bin Saad, from Awf bin Malik, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Rashid bin Saad, and likewise Abbad bin Yusuf Kindi, whom his student Ibrahim bin Ala Zubaydi Himsi deemed reliable. As for Ibn Hajar, he said, "Acceptable." And Ibn Kathir said in Nihayah, "Its chain has no problem with it."
