The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution at her home and wiped his entire head, starting from the top of the hair and moving in every direction to where the hair ends, without disturbing the hair from its arrangement.
إن رسول الله ﷺ توضأ عندها فمسح الرأس كله من قرن الشعر كل ناحية لمنصب الشعر، لا يحرك الشعر عن هيئته.
Reported by Abu Dawud (128) from Qutayba bin Saeed and Yazid bin Khalid Hamdani, who both said, Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Ajlan, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from her. Its chain is hasan, for Muhammad bin Ajlan's hadith is hasan, and likewise Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, and Layth here is Ibn Saad, the Egyptian. Her statement, "he wiped the whole head," contains evidence for wiping the entire head comprehensively. Abu Ubayd said in Tahur (p. 357), "This is the view of the people of transmitted evidence and those who follow it. The people of independent legal reasoning differed. Some of them said it suffices to wipe a quarter of it or more, while others considered wiping half preferable."He said, "What we hold in this matter is adherence to the reports we have narrated at the beginning of this book concerning wiping the whole head. A man should make sure nothing of it remains unwiped, just as is done when wiping the face for tayammum, since both are expressed in the revealed text with the same wording, and the sunnah then explained it through the reports we have mentioned from the Prophetﷺ. As for setting a limit of half or a quarter, this is not permissible for anyone unless supporting evidence is found in a book, a sunnah, or a consensus." End of quote.
