The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave the Abyssinians alone as long as they leave you alone, and leave the Turks alone as long as they leave you alone."
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال: دعوا الحبشة ما ودعوكم، واتركوا الترك ما تركوكم.
Abu Dawud (4302) and Nasai (3176) both narrated it through the route of Damra, from Abu Zura Sibani, from Abu Sakina, a man from the freedmen, from a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, who related it. Abu Dawud confined himself to the wording mentioned, while Nasai transmitted it at length, as noted in the section on military campaigns. Its chain is hasan because of Damra, who is Ibn Rabia Filastini, for his hadith is hasan. Abu Sakina's companionship with the Prophet is disputed, as stated in Taqrib, and the discussion of this is elaborated in the section on military campaigns.The meaning of the hadith is, do not provoke them, but leave them as they are, since the word "leave" comes from "wadaa, yadau, wadaan," meaning to abandon.
