I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "What remains of this world is nothing but trial and tribulation. The deeds of any one of you are like a vessel. If its top is good, its bottom is good, and if its top is foul, its bottom is foul."
Ahmad narrated it (16853), and this is his wording, as did Ibn Majah (4035, 4199), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (392, 690), all of them through various routes from Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid bin Jabir, who said, Abu Abd Rabbih told me, he said, I heard Muawiya say on this pulpit, and then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abu Abd Rabbih, who is also called Abu Abd Rabb, for he is hasan al-hadith, and the discussion of him is treated at length in the book on divine decree. On this subject there is also what was narrated from Mughira bin Shuba, who said, the Messenger of Allah stood among us and gave a speech, informing us of what would happen in his nation up until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever retained it retained it, and whoever forgot it forgot it. Ahmad narrated it (18224), as did Tabarani in Al-Kabir (2/1077), and Aqeeli in Duafa (3/145–146), all of them through the hadith of Makki bin Ibrahim, who said, Hashim, meaning Ibn Hashim, told us, from Umar bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad, from Muhammad bin Kaab Qurazi, from Mughira bin Shuba, and then he mentioned it.In this chain, Umar bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad is unknown, and no one deemed him reliable except Ibn Hibban, and no one narrated from him except Hashim bin Hashim. For this reason Aqeeli said, "His hadith is not corroborated." He also said, "As for the text itself, it has been narrated through sound chains of transmission."What is meant by this announcement is the major events that change the face of the world, whether these are trials and upheavals, or matters relating to the Islamic conquests and the spread of Islam's reach. As for the countless minor events, they are not included in this.
