Huzaifa bin Yaman reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us two things. I have witnessed one of them, and I am waiting for the other. He told us that trustworthiness was sent down into the very depths of men's hearts, then the Quran was revealed, so they learned from the Quran and they learned from the Sunnah.Then he told us about the removal of trustworthiness. He said, "A man will sleep a brief sleep, and trustworthiness will be taken from his heart, leaving only a faint trace like a small mark. Then he will sleep another sleep, and what remains of trustworthiness will be taken from his heart, leaving its trace like a blister, similar to an ember you roll over your foot which raises a swelling. You see it bulging out, yet there is nothing inside it."Then he took a pebble and rolled it over his foot. He continued, "People will go about their business buying and selling, but hardly anyone will fulfill a trust, until it will be said, 'Among the tribe of so-and-so there is a trustworthy man.' And it will be said of a man, 'How tough he is! How clever! How sensible!' while in his heart there is not even a mustard seed's weight of faith.There came a time upon me when I did not care which of you I dealt with. If he were a Muslim, his religion would compel him to return what he owed me, and if he were a Christian or a Jew, his governor would compel him to do so. But today, I would not deal with any of you except so-and-so and so-and-so."

عن حذيفة قال

حدثنا رسول الله ﷺ حديثين قد رأيت أحدهما وأنا أنتظر الآخر، حدثنا أن الأمانة نزلت في جذر قلوب الرجال، ثم نزل القرآن، فعلموا من القرآن وعلموا من السنة، ثم حدثنا عن رفع الأمانة قال: ينام الرجل النومة، فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه، فيظل أثرها مثل الوكت، ثم ينام النومة فتقبض الأمانة من قلبه، فيظل أثرها مثل المجل كجمر دحرجته على رجلك، فنفط فتراه منتبرا، وليس فيه شيء، ( ثم أخذ حصى فدحرجه على رجله) فيصبح الناس يتبايعون، لا يكاد أحد يؤدي الأمانة حتى يقال: إن في بني فلان رجلا أمينا، حتى يقال للرجل: ما أجلده! ما أظرفه! ما أعقله! وما في قلبه مثقال حبة من خردل من إيمان. ولقد أتى علي زمان، وما أبالي أيكم بايعت، لئن كان مسلما ليردنه علي دينه، ولئن كان نصرانيا أو يهوديا ليردنه على ساعيه، وأما اليوم فما كنت لأبايع منكم إلا فلانا وفلانا.
