Bukhari narrated it in Itisam (7276), and Muslim in Iman (143), both through the route of Amash, from Zayd bin Wahb, from Huzaifa, and he mentioned it.The companions would stop firmly at the Book of Allah, and they were eager to follow him ﷺ in every small and great matter, carrying out his commands and prohibitions with acceptance and submission. There are very many examples of this, including the following.Abdullah bin Abbas reported that Uyayna bin Hisn bin Huzaifa bin Badr arrived and stayed with his nephew, Hurr bin Qays bin Hisn, who was among those whom Umar kept close to him. The Quran readers were the people of Umar's council and consultation, whether they were older men or young men. Uyayna said to his nephew, "Nephew, do you have enough standing with this commander that you could seek permission for me to see him?" He said, "I will seek permission for you."Ibn Abbas said, so he sought permission for Uyayna, and when he entered, he said, "Ibn Khattab, by Allah, you do not give us generously, nor do you judge between us with justice." Umar became so angry that he was about to strike him, but Hurr said, "Commander of the Believers, Allah Almighty said to His Prophet ﷺ, "Overlook and command what is right and turn away from the ignorant" [Araf 7:199], and this man is indeed one of the ignorant." By Allah, Umar did not go beyond this verse once it was recited to him, for he would stop firmly at the Book of Allah.Bukhari narrated it in Itisam (7289) from Ismail, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to me, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, who said, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba narrated to me that Abdullah bin Ibn Abbas said, and he mentioned it.Among these examples also is what Abu Waail narrated. He said, "I sat with Shayba in this masjid." He said, "Umar sat with me in this very spot of yours and said, 'I was tempted not to leave in it any gold or silver without dividing it among the Muslims.' I said, 'You will not do that.' He said, 'Why not?' I said, 'Your two companions did not do it.' He said, 'They are the two men whose example is to be followed.'"Bukhari narrated it in Itisam (7275) from Amr bin Abbas, who said, Abdul-Rahman narrated to us, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Wasil, from Abu Waail, and he mentioned it.Ibn Umar, whenever he heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah, would not add anything to it, nor would he fall short of it.Ibn Majah narrated it (4) with a sahih chain of transmission.
