The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has not forbidden anything without knowing that some among you would venture into it. Indeed, I am holding you back by your waistbands to keep you from plunging into the Fire like moths or flies."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله لم يحرم حرمة إلا وقد علم أنه سيطلعها منكم مطلع، ألا وإني آخذ بحجزكم أن تهافتوا في النار كتهافت الفراش أو الذباب.
Ahmad (3704) narrated it from Waki, from Masudi, from Uthman Thaqafi or Hasan bin Saad (Masudi was uncertain), from Abdah Nahdi, from Abdullah, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Abdah, who is Ibn Hazn Nahdi, there is disagreement over whether he was a Companion, and the correct view is that he was not a Companion, but his hadith is hasan because a group of narrators reported from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. Masudi's uncertainty in identifying his teacher does no harm, because both possibilities, Uthman bin Mughira Thaqafi and Hasan bin Saad Hashimi, are trustworthy. Masudi is Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Utbah, who became confused in his narration later in life, but Waki narrated from him before that confusion set in.His statement, "one of you will come upon it," means one of you will commit it.
