Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer (443:142) through several chains from Busr bin Saeed, from Zaynab, with the wording already mentioned. In another version, "If any of you attends the night prayer, she should not wear perfume."It was also narrated from Maymuna bint Saad, who was a servant of the Prophet ﷺ, that she said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The example of a woman who parades about in adornment where it is not appropriate is like the darkness of the Day of Resurrection, having no light."Tirmidhi narrated it (1167) from Ali bin Khashram, who said, Isa bin Yunus informed us, from Musa bin Ubayda, from Ayub bin Khalid, from Maymuna bint Saad, with the same account.Tirmidhi said, "We know this hadith only through the hadith of Musa bin Ubayda. Musa bin Ubayda is graded daif in hadith on account of his memory, but he is truthful, and Shuba and Thawri narrated from him."I say, Musa bin Ubayda is al-Rabadhi, Abu Abdul-Aziz Madani, and he is daif by the agreement of the scholars of knowledge. So Tirmidhi's statement, "he is truthful," reflects a leniency on his part, and the fact that Shuba and Thawri narrated from him does not establish anything.As for his mention of "the night prayer," this is because temptation is greater at that time, though the warning applies to all times.
