The Prophet ﷺ said, "When a woman wears perfume and passes by people so that they catch her scent, she is such and such." He spoke harsh words about it.
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إذا استعطرت المرأة فمرت على القوم ليجدوا ريحها، فهي كذا وكذا. قال قولا شديدا.
Abu Dawud (4173) reported it, and this is his wording, as did Tirmidhi (2786), Nasai (5126), and Ahmad (19578). Ibn Khuzayma (1681), Ibn Hibban (4424), and Hakim (2/396) graded it sahih, all of them through the route of Thabit, meaning Ibn Umara, from Ghunaym, from Abu Musa Ashari, who mentioned it.The wording of Tirmidhi is, "Every eye commits adultery, and if a woman perfumes herself and passes by a gathering, she is such and such," meaning an adulteress. He said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." Hakim said, "Its chain is sahih." Its chain is only hasan, because of Thabit bin Ammar, concerning whom there is disagreement, though his narration is hasan when he does not err.
