Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (402) from Amr bin Awn, who said, Hushaym narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, and he mentioned the hadith at length, and it is documented in its proper place. Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2399) through another route, from Ibn Umar, from Umar, in a shortened form.However, the Prophet ﷺ, who knew more than Umar and had greater jealousy than him, did not do that until the revelation came down, as mentioned in Surah Ahzab regarding the story of Zaynab bint Jahsh, which will come later. The mistake here comes from the assumption that Umar asked the Prophet ﷺ to have the Mothers of the Believers observe hijab, and that Allah then immediately revealed the verse of hijab.
