Safiya bint Shayba reported,

While we were with Ayesha, she mentioned the women of Quraysh and their merit. Ayesha said, "The women of Quraysh certainly have merit, but by Allah, I have never seen any women more excellent than the women of the Ansar, none stronger in their belief in the Book of Allah, nor in their faith in the revelation. When Surah an-Nur was revealed and the verse 'and let them draw their head coverings over their bosoms' [Nur 24:31] came down, their men returned to them reciting what had been revealed to them in it. A man would recite it to his wife, his daughter, his sister, and every female relative. Not one of them remained who did not get up and take her embroidered wrap, wrapping it around her head as an affirmation of faith in what Allah had revealed in His Book. The next morning they prayed the Fajr prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with their heads covered, as though crows were perched upon them."
