May Allah have mercy on the first women of the Emigrants. When Allah revealed "and let them draw their head coverings over their bosoms" [Nur 24:31], they tore their waist-wraps and made head coverings from them.
يرحم الله نساء المهاجرات الأول، لما أنزل الله: {وليضربن بخمرهن على جيوبهن} شققن مروطهن فاختمرن بها.
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4758), saying, Ahmad bin Shabib said, my father narrated to us, from Yunus, Ibn Shihab said, from Urwa, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Ahmad bin Shabib is one of the teachers of Bukhari, so his saying "said" is to be understood as indicating a connected chain. His statement, "the muruth" (garments) - the singular is mirt, which is a wrap worn around the waist.
