Abdul-Rahman bin Tarafa reported,

His grandfather Arfaja bin Asaad had his nose cut off during the pre-Islamic era at the Battle of al-Kulab. He fashioned a nose for himself out of silver, but it began to give off a foul odor, so the Prophet ﷺ instructed him to make a nose of gold instead.
