The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the gold ring, garments made of qassi silk, the mithara saddle-cushion, and the intoxicating drink known as jiah.
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن خاتم الذهب، وعن القسي، وعن الميثرة، وعن الجعة.
Tirmidhi (2808), Abu Dawud (4051), Nasai (5165), Ibn Majah (3654), Ibn Abu Shayba (110/8), and Ahmad (1102) all narrated it from the hadith of Abu Ahwas, from Abu Ishaq, from Hubayra bin Yarim, from Ali, who related it. The wording given is that of Tirmidhi, and some of them abridged it.Abu Ahwas said, "Jia is a drink made in Egypt from barley."Its chain is hasan because of Hubayra bin Yarim, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." Abu Ishaq is Subayi, a mudallis, but Shuba also narrated it in the version found in Abu Dawud, and he is the one who said, "I have spared you the tadlis of Abu Ishaq."
