Whenever I wanted to part the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I would make the parting from the crown of his head and let his forelock fall between his eyes.
كنت إذا أردت أن أفرق رأس رسول الله ﷺ صدعت الفرق من يافوخه، وأرسل ناصيته بين عينيه.
Abu Dawud (4189) narrated it from Yahya bin Khalaf, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Muhammad bin Jafar bin Zubayr narrated to me, from Urwa, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, since he explicitly stated that he narrated it directly.Ahmad (24594) likewise narrated it from Ibrahim bin Saad, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, with the same chain. Ibn Majah (3633) narrated it through another route, from Ibrahim bin Saad, from Ibn Ishaq, from Yahya bin Abbad, from his father, from Ayesha, who said, "I used to part the hair behind the crown of the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then let his forelock hang down."Both versions are preserved, as Daraqutni said in Ilal (3568). Her saying, "sadaat farqah," means she parted it. And her saying "yafookh" refers to the middle of the head.
