I heard my father, when I asked him, say, "Our dye in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wars and saffron."
سمعت أبي وسألته فقال: كان خضابنا مع رسول الله ﷺ الورس والزعفران.
Ahmad (15882), Tabarani in Al-Kabir (8/377), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (2975) all narrated it from the hadith of Bakr bin Isa Abu Bishr Basri Rasibi, who said, "Abu Awana narrated to us, he said, Abu Malik narrated to us," and he related it. Its isnad is sahih. Its isnad is sahih. Abu Malik is Saad bin Tariq bin Ashim Ashjai, a trustworthy and precise narrator about whom there is no disagreement. His statement, "This was our dye," means during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it contains an affirmation from the Prophet ﷺ of dyeing with wars and saffron.
