Muhammad bin Sirin reported,

Anas bin Malik was asked about the dyeing of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ hair. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had only a few grey hairs, but Abu Bakr and Umar after him dyed their hair with henna and katam."He continued, "On the day of the conquest of Mecca, Abu Bakr brought his father Abu Quhafa to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, carrying him until he placed him before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Bakr, "Had you left the old man in his house, we would have come to him, out of honor for Abu Bakr."He then accepted Islam, and his beard and head were as white as the thaghamah plant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Change the color of these, but avoid black."
