The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Trim the moustaches and let the beards grow. Differ from the Magians."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: جزوا الشوارب، وأرخوا اللحى، خالفوا المجوس.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Purification (260:55), from Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, who said, Ibn Abu Maryam informed us, who said, Muhammad bin Jafar informed us, who said, Ala bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yaqub, the freedman of Hurqah, informed me, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.This is how it appears in the narration of the majority, "arkhu," meaning leave them and let them grow long. In the narration of Ibn Mahan it appears as "arju," with a jim, and its meaning is the same. It is originally "arjiu," with a hamza, but the hamza was dropped for ease of pronunciation, and its meaning is delay them.
