Jabir reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him when he got married, "Have you acquired any decorated cloth coverings?"Jabir replied, "Where would we get such coverings from?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "They will certainly come."Wazad added in another narration, Jabir said, "My wife had such a covering, and I would say to her, 'Take it away from me.' But she would reply, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that they will certainly come.'"
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ لما تزوجت: أتخذت أنماطا؟ قلت: وأنى لنا أنماط؟ قال: أما إنها ستكون. وزاد في رواية: قال جابر: وعند امرأتي نمط، فأنا أقول نحيه عني، وتقول: قد قال رسول الله ﷺ: إنها ستكون.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Marriage (5161), and Muslim in the Book of Clothing (2083:39), both from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir, and he related it. The other narration in Muslim (40) comes through Waki, from Sufyan, with the same wording.As for his saying, "anmatan," the word anmat is the plural of namat, following the pattern of akhbar as the plural of khabar. It refers to the top covering of a bed, and it is also used for a fine cushion with a nap that is placed on a howdah, and sometimes used as a curtain. This hadith shows that it is permissible to take anmat as long as they are not made of silk. The miracle of the Prophet ﷺ became evident, as things turned out exactly as he had foretold.
